Returning to Clash of Clans: what to check before your next upgrade

Coming back to a village after a long break can leave you with a full screen of upgrade buttons and no clear place to start. If you only want a few short sessions each day, it helps to decide what you want from the game before spending your resources.

Here is a simple way to make that first decision without turning your return into a second job.

Choose a goal you will actually play

Do you want to collect resources, get ready for clan wars, or finish the upgrades at your current Town Hall? Those goals can lead to different choices. Pick one for now. You can change it once you have played a few sessions and remembered what you enjoy.

For example, if your goal is farming, start by looking at the troops and spells you intend to use for resource attacks. A troop you never deploy is a less useful starting point, even if its upgrade button is waiting.

Check the army you have

Write down one army you want to use. Then check the levels of its troops, spells and heroes. This gives you a smaller, more useful list than trying to improve everything in your account at once.

We also run Clash Insight, an independent Clash of Clans fan site. Its free CoC account checker lets you look up your player tag and review recorded army levels against the supported maximums for your Town Hall. Open Army to see the gaps, then Next moves to choose a goal and review the suggested priorities. No Supercell password is needed.

A level gap is only a starting point. Ten remaining hero levels do not tell you how much time or resource spending remains. The checker also cannot see all your building, wall and trap levels, so check your village in the game before making a decision.

Turn the shortlist into one next step

Choose one upgrade from your shortlist and check its requirements, cost and availability in the game. If you cannot start it yet, note what is missing. That turns “my account needs work” into something you can act on.

Keep a short note for your next visit:

  • My goal: what I want to do when I log in.
  • My army: the troops and spells I plan to use.
  • Next upgrade: one specific troop, spell or hero.
  • Before I start: the requirement or resources I still need.

After a few sessions, revisit the note. If you are enjoying a different part of the game, adjust the plan. You do not need a perfect schedule to make your next login feel less aimless.
