Susan has spent so much time saving the Lost Lands that she has underestimated how long she has been absent from Earth. Her son Jim has noticed. Redemption puts that resentment beside a dangerous relic and a supernatural threat, making her return home more awkward than the usual arrival of a celebrated hero.

Big Fish frames the story around repairing the relationship while dealing with the disaster. Steam makes the same conflict explicit: Jim becomes involved in the adventures he already resents. It is a strong sequel premise because it asks what the recurring rescue missions have displaced. A parent can be indispensable in one world and unavailable in another.

The family argument is only half the purchase

The puzzles still have to carry the journey. One Steam customer found them so confusing and laborious that repeated skips eventually led to abandoning the game. Another likes the more developed dialogue and characters while judging the gameplay a solid continuation. Those are useful opposing views, rather than proof that either experience is universal. Our interest is in the change of perspective. Earlier Lost Lands games ask Susan to respond to a crisis. Here the ongoing pattern is itself part of a crisis at home. That gives Jim's frustration a role beyond obstructing a quest. Whether his dialogue is persuasive remains a matter of taste, and the critical customer account makes clear that the family scenes do not win everyone over.

The official descriptions promise temple mysteries, manuscripts and hidden places. They do not promise that the new emotional conflict replaces the established search-and-puzzle structure. If you already find lengthy mini-games tiring, the stronger premise will not remove them. A story-focused buyer should be comfortable using assistance rather than treating every skip as a failure.

Redemption is a more natural choice after several of Susan's journeys than as a first Lost Lands. Knowing why she keeps returning makes the conflict with Jim less abstract. Big Fish's Collector's Edition includes a bonus chapter and optional collections, but the family story is the reason to look at the main game. Choose it for that consequence of a long-running adventure, with a trial to test the puzzle style before committing to the full return trip.
