Haunted Hotel: Eclipse review: the guests may really be monsters

The maid says the guests are monsters. In an ordinary hotel that might be a complaint about manners; in Eclipse it is the beginning of an investigation with your partner James. The premise is deliberately uncertain about how literally to take the warning. That uncertainty is enough to make the arrival interesting without revealing where the story goes.

Customer descriptions give a clearer idea of the game's flavour. Steam reviewers mention rival supernatural groups and a range of creatures, rather than a single isolated haunting. One player enjoyed how those elements connected; another felt the mixture weakened the suspense. That disagreement is useful. If your idea of a good haunted hotel is one ghost and one buried crime, a broader fantasy conflict may be less appealing than it is to someone who enjoys supernatural factions.

The same review sample gives practical details about play. A reviewer praises the travel map and describes hints that explain a next step in words. Another finds some scene interactions insufficiently obvious. These observations can coexist: help may be available while individual hotspots remain easy to miss. We would inspect that part of the trial closely if you dislike moving a cursor around a scene in search of the one usable detail.

The Collector's Edition provides an additional investigation, a built-in guide and the usual music and artwork, according to its Steam listing. Those extras are straightforward. The bonus chapter matters if the hotel's secrets hold your interest; the guide matters if the object interactions become opaque. Neither makes the central mixture of monsters more restrained for a reader who would prefer a smaller ghost story.

Eclipse looks best suited to someone who enjoys supernatural variety and a detective-partner setup. The customer responses do not support calling it universally tense or universally dull. They support a more useful recommendation: decide whether the kind of mystery interests you, then check how its interactions feel. A hotel crowded with competing supernatural interests has a different appeal from an empty building with a single unexplained sound. James's presence also gives the investigation a companion rather than leaving the player entirely alone. If that combination sounds inviting, inspect the screenshots and sample the case. The important question is whether you want this hotel's particular trouble, not whether you generally like every game with a haunted building on the cover.
